The Minister for Marine, Charlie McConalogue, T.D, has officially opened the new €2.16 million national sea survival training pool at the Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), National Fisheries College of Ireland (NFCI) in Greencastle, Co. Donegal.
Minister McConalogue expressed his delight at the opening of this important national resource, stating that the purpose-built facility will increase nationwide capability in sea survival training, delivering student-centric courses of the highest quality. The new, modern training equipment, along with the 12-metre pool, can simulate sea conditions, such as cold, dark water, wind, and rain, ensuring high-quality sea survival training for those working in the fishing industry around Ireland.
This state-of-the-art facility was funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine and will further enhance the facilities offered at the National Fisheries College in Greencastle, providing vital resources to the Irish seafood industry.
The opening of the sea survival training pool follows the recent completion of the €25 million Greencastle Harbour Breakwater, marking a significant investment by the Department in developing essential maritime infrastructure in the region.
