A new book provides an illustrated account of one Dublin kayaker’s intrepid solo voyage around the island of Ireland.

Big Dream, Little Boat follows Skerries Sailing Club member Kevin O’Sullivan on his mission to circumnavigate the whole of Ireland by kayak — a few days at a time.

Over the course of three years, fitting in short expeditions around his family commitments the demands of his job as a pilot with Aer Lingus, Kevin completed his daunting endeavour and now shares his adventures in an illustrated, 320-page account boasting 12 hand-drawn maps and 175 colour photographs.

The paperback charts a wealth of experiences, from the good — the marine life and scenery of Ireland’s coasts, the hospitality of people along the way — and the not-so-good, from challenging weather to chronic seasickness.

Big Dream, Little Boat will be published by The Liffey Press on 30 April and will be available from all good bookstores for €24.95 RRP.
