After their win in the Maxi A World Championships in Porto Cervo, Italy in September, a crew with some of Ireland's top superyacht racing talent onboard Galateia took third overall in the MAA division at Les Voiles de St. Tropez Regatta in France last weekend.
A seven-strong Irish presence on the 100ft Galateia included double Volvo Race winner Justin Slattery of Cork and Nin O'Leary, Cork, Simon Johnson, Wicklow, Johnny Mordaunt, Dublin, Ed O'Connor, Limerick, Rory Harrap, Cork, Kelvin Harrap, Cork and Chris Walsh of Dublin.
Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez is one of the most significant events on the Mediterranean regatta circuit. Both ultramodern yachts and rare wooden yachts participate in it, with a fleet of up to 250 competing.
In the last race of the year for David M Leuschen and Chris Flowers’ Galateia, the crew negotiated tricky light airs to take third in a tough class won by Cannonball with North Star second.
