The 29th of June saw the conclusion of the Yachting World Dayboat Nationals in Rock, Cornwall.
Jack Young and Ellie Aneiros from the Royal Cork Yacht Club were in attendance sailing their beautiful wooden Dayboat PaPa 2.
This was their third attempt at the Nationals title, and it turned out that 2023 was their year.
Papa 2 was built by Jack's Grandfather, Don Young, about 20 years ago; it was specifically built to be used for the grandchildren to learn how to sail. That concept has been carried through to its conclusion, with Jack and Ellie winning the Dayboat Nationals yesterday by taking the final race in style.
The Dayboat Nationals follows a traditional old-style format with one championship race a day and varied course types to test the sailors' ability on all points of sailing. Jack was already a multiple Dayboat Champion as crew, but now Ellie and himself hold the title as National Champions for 2023.
His Grandad would be very proud to see this great result if he were still alive. Congratulations to them both, and keep up the family tradition going forward!
