The United States team led by Jimmy Spithill has claimed an emotional first win of SailGP Season 4 at the Spain Sail Grand Prix in Andalucía. The triumph was remarkable, given that the team had lost flight controller Hans Henken to injury in Taranto. Moreover, the Americans scraped into the finals after a massive error by New Zealand. Nonetheless, they produced a stunning race and emerged victorious in the fifth event.

ROCKWOOL Denmark SailGP Team, led by Nicolai Sehested, was the favourite to win the event after dominating wins in races four and five. However, the Danish team got caught in a battle with Tom Slingsby's Australia, which allowed Spithill and the United States, with Taylor Canfield coming in as flight controller after Henken's unfortunate injury, to grab the lead and never look back.

The third place for Slingsby's Australia once again demonstrated the team's consistency and extended its lead at the top of the championship. However, the wait for an event win in Season 4 continues for the triple SailGP winners.

The event was a thrilling experience for the fans, and the next two events of the season will be held in the United Arab Emirates, starting with the Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix presented by P&O Marinas on December 9-10.
