The County Wicklow designed Cape 31 by Mark Mills to announce its arrival in the big time with the UK Class start at Cowes Week 2021.

The Cape 31 stole a lot of the limelight with some enthusiastic reporting from the Cowes press corps. With five different daily winners over the first five days, the Class maintained its reputation for intensely close racing across the full range of wind strengths, with the first three boats finishing Race three within 10 seconds, after almost three hours of racing!

On the podium was Squirt, Katabatic, and Nifty.

The UK fleet continues to grow, according to Mills, with more boats on their way from the builder, the RTYC Invitational to come in a few weeks, a warmer weather winter circuit planned, and a big 2022 season on the cards.

As regular readers will recall, Afloat has been reporting on Cape 31 developments since its inception in 2017

Boasting high-performance features such as an innovative ramp deck, an all-carbon keel fin, and a Southern Spars carbon rig, the light but powerful 31 has been impressing sailors on both sides of the Atlantic.
