Class Zero in Dun Laoghaire will get another boost with the imminent arrival of John Treanor’s new J/112e. The brand new 36 ft yacht is currently being commissioned at Key Yachting’s base in Hamble and will have her first Irish racing event at the Sovereign's Cup in Kinsale next week. Prior to that, it will race at the J Cup UK from the 15th to the 17th of June at the Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble before doing the delivery to Kinsale.
Key Yachting representative in Ireland, Mark Mansfield, will be helping with initial prep and tuning by racing the first event on her in the UK.
The J/112e has proven itself an exceptional IRC and ORC performer, having won the IRC and ORC Worlds and Europeans on more than one occasion. A sister ship won class 0 at Cork Week in 2022. However, it is not a fully stripped-out racer and has a very comfortable interior for cruising.
The new J/112e will then compete at Volvo Dun Laoghaire week in early July, Calves week in early August in Schull, J Cup Ireland in late August at the Royal Irish and the ICRA Nationals in early September at Howth YC.
Commenting on her arrival, J /Boats Irish agent Mark Mansfield said he was “delighted that a high spec grand prix version of the J/112e is arriving in Dublin and will hopefully show off the prowess of this model. The J/112e can be competitive both inshore and offshore and then can go on to provide a really comfortable platform for cruising between regattas.”
